COMMUNITY PARTNERS

Our goal is to assist people in obtaining meaningful work opportunities, and to help them participate fully in their communities. We help individuals with disabilities gain freedom from dependence on government support by providing them on-the-job training and stable work opportunities.

The Norfolk Environmental Commission is a non-profit organization and a branch of the City of Norfolk Department of Public Works. Our mission is to lead citizens toward environmental stewardship by providing education, conservation and community service opportunities.

Jerry's Artarama, located in Virginia Beach, has been instrumental in furthering the cause of local artists throughout Hampton Roads. In cooperation with Tanner's Creek, Jerry's has created an Art Show venue at Tanner's Creek to showcase the talents of our fine artists. In addition, Jerry's has provided art supplies and more to Tanner's Creek Day Support Program, as well as giving these budding artists a way to express themselves artistically. We believe that oftentimes the simple process of applying paint to canvas can transform a person's life experience in miraculous ways.

The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia works to provide solutions to hunger and certain consequences of poverty in our community by promoting food recovery by means of acquiring and distributing food, clothing and related products to those in crisis in our community. The Foodbank also provides community leadership and education on issues of hunger.

Over 250 student musicians from all over Hampton Roads create four performing ensembles to present concerts throughout the Tidewater area. Students from as far away as Williamsburg, Yorktown, and North Carolina, and as close as Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Hampton, and Norfolk attend weekly rehearsals on Monday evenings at Northside Middle School in Norfolk and Cedar Roads Elementary in Chesapeake. Under the direction and guidance of many supportive music educators over the past 33 years, Bay Youth Orchestras has developed into one of the largest youth orchestra programs in the country. Offering four levels of ensemble training, Bay Youth gives student musicians the opportunity to learn and perform the world's greatest orchestral literature. Bay Youth Orchestras of Virginia is a 501C(3) non-profit organization and receives funding from the Business Consortium for Arts Support of South Hampton Roads, the City of Chesapeake Fine Arts Commission, the City of Norfolk Arts and Humanities Commission, the City of Virginia Beach Arts and Humanities Commission, The Virginia Commission for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The Virginia Zoological Park seeks to increase understanding of the world's flora and fauna and to add to the growing body of knowledge about them; to display animals respectfully, in a way that encourages their natural behavior; to conserve animals and their habitats; and to offer opportunities for learning and enjoyment to the public. It will strive to fulfill this mission through education, conservation, research and recreation.

Hampton Roads' oldest community theater, the Little Theatre of Norfolk was founded in 1926. The theater is located on Claremont Avenue in Norfolk's Ghent section.

The benefit of having such reputable nurseries so close to us is that if we don't have it in stock we can get it quickly. Bennett's Creek & Lancaster Farms are where we buy the majority of the plants, trees & shrubs that we don't grow at our greenhouses. Take a look at their online catalogs and if you find something that you want, let us know and we'll get it.

GEICO takes pride in being one of the nation's fastest growing auto insurance companies and we are equally proud of the work we do outside our office walls. Part of GEICO's corporate mission is to encourage active, involved citizenship and continually improve our efforts to become environmentally responsible in the communities where we operate. In keeping with our dedication to being a good corporate citizen, GEICO’s Virginia Beach associates read, build, mentor, coach, recycle - we do whatever it takes to help organizations and people in our community

For over 30 years, the Fred Heutte Center - at the intersection of Westover Avenue and Botetourt Gardens in the historic Ghent community of Norfolk, Virginia - has been the focal point of the Friends of Fred Heutte Foundation whose members work to continue Mr. Heutte's wish to enrich our community by sharing his ideals of urban beautification through horticultural education.
